Want to help a kid "Get out of Town"?
Since 2001 Two Wheel View / Trips for Kids Twin Cities has coordinated 60
local programs in the Twin Cities, 9 regional programs in Wisconsin and
North Dakota, and three international programs in Argentina and Norway. Our
collaboration with more than 20 local youth groups such as the St. Paul
Public Schools, YMCA, The Boys and Girls Club and other community groups has
yielded results, serving 587 young people with the help of 217 community
volunteers.

1. Bicycle Ambassadors to Argentina
This summer eight young people and adult volunteers will travel to northern
Argentina for a two-week adventure. The program promotes the concepts of
community involvement, cultural understanding and care for the environment.
For most of these youth, it will be their first experience with
international travel as well as extended bicycle touring. The youth and
leaders will be involved in pre-trip fundraising and post trip activities
that support the ongoing success of the international bike trip program and
further the mission of Two Wheel View. As part of Two Wheel View's mission,
each participant is designated as a "Bicycle Ambassador" - representing
their home community abroad and sharing their experiences through
environmental action plans and community presentations upon their return.
Learn more about the program at http://www.twowheelview.org/argentina.htm.
2. Be a ride leader - local event calendar (Twin Cites, Minnesota)
TWV / TFK - Twin Cities works with community groups to provide environmental
education and mountain bike outings for young people who would not otherwise
have these opportunities. Program range from half day adventures to
extended, overnight learning expeditions. The program combines environmental
education, service learning, and outdoor adventure with the simple act of
having fun. Volunteer ride leaders are always needed. Please contact Rick to
volunteer for any of the events. (612) 874-1895 or info at twowheelview.org.

3. Making a difference - testimonials
When we hear back from any of the young people we work with we like to share
their comments. Aaron was on the Argentina program in 2004.
FROM AARON:
I'm doing better then ever in school, and I enjoy working at the hardware
store. I just bought a bike and road it for the first time today. It's a
Trek 4500 w/disc breaks. I also bought a Mountain Hardwear Tent from REI and
I hope to have a set of rear touring panniers in the next month. I'm making
plans to go on some local trips this spring and summer both solo and with
Blaise.
I recently made a website for a class at school. Check it out
http://www.geocities.com/a2bdrummin it's kind of based around biking and
camping, and has a few pictures, and a list of some of the equipment I
have/want to get. I'll be updating it and making it better almost daily.
Feel free to use any photos or information from the site.
If you ever need someone to speak, or give a presentation with I'd be more
then willing to help out. I know I didn't raise all the money I needed to go
to Argentina with you guys, and it was by your grace that I was able to go.
So anything I can do to help the organization out I will, just give me a
warning in advance so I can base my work schedule around it. I also wouldn't
mind riding along with some local rides if that's alright with you.
This summer I'm going to Mexico to build "temporary housing" which really
isn't temporary at all. So that's kinda the next stage for me in
international travel (even though it's like 10 miles over the border)... and
I know it won't be the last.
Thanks again for laying a base for me to see the world... and although
Mexico won't be from a bike, I'm already looking into taking another Bike
trip in the next few years.
4. In the news - Bicycling Magazine
Robin Chotzinoff a writer for Bicycling Magazine will be joining us on a
trip to the Maah Daah Hey trail in North Dakota in May. The trip is with
Project LEAD, a St. Paul Public School program. We are excited to share our
way of education from the seat of a bike with her. The plan is that a story
about the program will be featured in Bicycling Magazine sometime in the
future.
