Greetings MORC members and mountain bike riders,
I wanted to take a moment to personally invite you to this weekend's event
at REI in Bloomington. As stated below, MORC and QBP are bringing in Philip
Keyes, the executive director of NEMBA to speak to us about taking advocacy
to the next level.
This is a great opportunity for MORC to build excitement about mountain bike
advocacy and help us see what the next steps are in advancing our
organization, which in turn will lead to more and better places to ride.
This is your personal invite. Please join us, Sunday February 20, at 11
a.m. in the Bloomington REI.
I hope to see you there.

President, MORC
MORC Welcomes Philip Keyes to Minnesota
Philip Keyes, executive director of the New England Mountain Bike
Association (NEMBA), will conduct a presentation exclusively for MORC
members and select invited guests on Sunday, February 20 from 11:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. at REI in Bloomington.
Philip's presentation, entitled "Building an Effective State-wide Advocacy
Organization," is designed as a series of conversations on topics related to
creating a unified statewide organization with the clout to protect and
enhance existing trails and create unprecedented trail building
opportunities. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the conversation
with your own thoughts and questions on the subject.
His experiences with NEMBA are particularly relevant to MORC members at a
time when we face the challenge of building on our local successes and
expanding beyond the metro area while staying true to our core goals and
standards.
This event is open to all MORC members. However, because space is limited,
please contact MORC President Scott Thayer by email at president at morcmtb.org
to reserve a spot.
This a rare opportunity to connect with the leader of one of the nation's
most prolific and productive regional mountain biking advocacy groups, and
we hope you'll take advantage of it.
Philip has written extensively on issues ranging from working with land
managers and drafting trail use policies to responsible riding and trail
preservation. You can find his writings online at both the NEMBA site
(nemba.org) and at the Dirt Rag magazine site (dirtragmag.com).
